Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has emphasized the country’s commitment to strengthening economic diplomacy as a means to support domestic businesses and secure vital resources, including through overseas farming projects. Speaking in Hamedan on Thursday, Araghchi described economic diplomacy as a strategic tool for removing barriers to international trade and investment, positioning the Foreign Ministry as a facilitator rather than a direct commercial actor.
He explained that the Ministry’s mission is to leverage political channels to open global pathways, resolve trade challenges, and help Iranian companies access new markets. One of the key objectives, Araghchi noted, is to use this approach to address Iran’s national water scarcity by fostering agricultural production abroad.
The Foreign Minister revealed that several African countries and Kazakhstan have expressed willingness to allocate land for Iranian farming ventures. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to connect Iranian economic enterprises with these partner nations, enabling the cultivation of essential crops overseas and strengthening the country’s food security through international cooperation.
