Iran Confirms Plan to Extend Gas Export Contract with Turkey Beyond 2026

Iran’s National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has confirmed that the country’s gas export contract with Turkey will be extended beyond its current term, which expires in 2026. Managing Director Saeed Tavakoli said on Saturday that long-term energy cooperation with Turkey remains a strategic priority for Iran, emphasizing that both sides are engaged in negotiations to finalize the volume, method, and mechanism of the renewed agreement.

Tavakoli noted that Turkey continues to rely on Iranian gas supplies, and discussions are progressing to ensure the continuity of exports for several years beyond the existing deal. The planned extension underscores the two neighbors’ commitment to maintaining energy cooperation amid growing regional energy demands and market uncertainties.

He also pointed to the growing volatility of the global gas market, citing factors such as the rise in U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, export restrictions in certain countries, and complex regional allocation systems. These developments, Tavakoli explained, have made the market increasingly short-term and competitive, reinforcing the importance of long-term and stable partnerships like the one between Iran and Turkey.
