UAE, Pakistan Leaders Discuss Expanding Economic and Energy Cooperation

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held talks in Islamabad focused on strengthening bilateral economic, energy, and investment ties during Sheikh Mohamed’s first official visit to Pakistan as president. The discussions covered existing cooperation, new areas of engagement, and key regional and international developments, according to a statement from Pakistan.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in economic cooperation, investment, energy, infrastructure, information technology, and people-to-people exchanges. They also agreed on the need to enhance bilateral trade, reaffirming their shared commitment to close coordination on issues of mutual interest and to advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The UAE is one of Pakistan’s largest trading partners, with bilateral trade exceeding $10 billion last year. The UAE is also home to around 1.8 million Pakistani expatriates, whose remittances reached approximately $6.7 billion in 2024 and are expected to surpass $7 billion in 2025, underscoring the depth of economic and social ties between the two countries.

Sheikh Mohamed was received upon arrival by Prime Minister Sharif and senior Pakistani officials, with his aircraft escorted by Pakistani fighter jets. Pakistani authorities described the visit as an important opportunity to further strengthen longstanding bilateral relations, building on the positive trajectory of cooperation across trade, investment, energy, development, and regional stability.
