Egypt, UAE Move Closer to Comprehensive Economic Partnership Deal

Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are advancing negotiations toward a comprehensive economic partnership agreement aimed at boosting investment flows and strengthening economic competitiveness, according to Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib. Talks in Cairo with UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi focused on aligning positions and resolving outstanding issues to reach a balanced framework serving mutual interests.

El-Khatib said the next phase requires intensified joint efforts to conclude negotiations, highlighting textiles, engineering industries, and chemical industries as priority areas for cooperation. He stressed the need to translate opportunities into concrete outcomes, noting that the agreement is designed to attract investment into productive, value-added sectors while maintaining flexible trade rules that enhance competitiveness in both economies.

The discussions also covered digital trade and trade in services, with El-Khatib reaffirming full government support for improving the business climate and attracting foreign investment. He emphasized that the partnership seeks not only to expand trade volumes but also to deepen economic integration in emerging and high-growth sectors.

Al Zeyoudi reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its economic partnership with Egypt, saying the agreement would help enhance regional and international competitiveness. He expressed optimism about concluding technical talks soon and opening new opportunities for trade and investment, particularly through greater private sector participation grounded in transparency and economic integration.
