Iran Hosts First International Blockchain and Crypto Conference, deBlock 2025

Iran’s first international conference on blockchain and cryptocurrencies, deBlock 2025, took place on November 6–7 at the IRIB International Conference Center in Tehran, marking a major step toward shaping the country’s digital economic future. The event opened with a message from Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who called crypto assets “a necessity for Iran’s future economy” and urged the development of a national roadmap for crypto regulation. The two-day forum brought together economists, diplomats, and fintech experts from BRICS member states and beyond, positioning digital assets as key to Iran’s integration into the evolving global economy.

Throughout the conference, participants explored the role of blockchain technologies in promoting financial independence within the BRICS framework. Pouria Astaraki, founder and secretary of deBlock, highlighted Bitcoin’s role in the global “de-dollarization” movement, describing it as “the first technological market for de-dollarization.” More than 100 research papers were submitted worldwide, with 20 top studies recognized through awards totaling 12 Ethereum tokens (worth over $40,000). Speakers from Iran’s ICT Guild Organization and Parliament underscored that achieving the national target of a 10 percent digital economy share is impossible without embracing crypto innovation and smart regulation.

A highlight of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between deBlock and Trescon Global, a Dubai-based organizer of major tech events such as the World Blockchain Summit. The agreement aims to expand deBlock’s international reach and explore the creation of a “Wiki FinTech” platform in Tehran. With delegates from over 15 countries in attendance, deBlock 2025 has been hailed as Iran’s first comprehensive and policy-oriented gathering on crypto assets—one that may set the foundation for positioning the country as a regional hub for blockchain innovation in collaboration with BRICS and other emerging economies.
